A body kit usually contains front and rear bumpers, and side skirts. Replacing your bumpers with a more custom look, you will get the biggest change in your cars appearance. A wind splitter is added under your front bumper of your body kit, and this is designed to direct more air over the top of your car to increase down force and traction. A spoiler also increased down force at the rear of the vehicle increasing traction in the rear. A body kit can sometimes include built in rear diffusers on the back bumper, but if it does not it would be a great addition. A rear diffuser will help smooth out the air flow under your car reducing the turbulence at higher speeds.
A body kit can be made of different materials. Most are fiberglass or Urethane, but some are of a custom blend of materials by brands like Extreme Dimensions Duraflex. Carbon Fiber can also be used in manufacturing a body kit since this is a light weight material, yet durable as well.
