Adding a spoiler to the rear of your car can do some good for your ride. Not only will it improve on the style and sheer design of your car, but it can help with the performance as well.
Spoilers are often added to a car for the sole purpose of improving the vehicles looks. Adding a spoiler to your car will in fact improve your looks, and there are many styles to choose from. There are styles that replicate popular car models out there. The Evo spoiler is a good example as it replicates the style from the Mitsubishi Evolution Spoiler. The Supra spoiler is also a well know look.
Spoilers are sometimes confused with wings which are also added to the tail end of a car. Now a spoiler can assist in your cars performance. The air that travels over your car can cause friction and turbulence. Your spoiler will help diffuse some of that air reducing both and improving on gas mileage and possibly adding traction by creating down force.
Now if you are looking to really increase traction, then you would want to consider adding a wing to the back of your car. A wing is different from a spoiler. Usually wings are much larger, and can be adjustable to increase or decrease the down force that is created. Since the wing is larger than a spoiler the wind will hit it much harder as it passes over the car pushing down on the rear of the car adding traction and handing at higher speeds. This is a must for racing.
If you are just looking to increase the overall style of your car and maybe help with your MPG's just a little then you should consider a spoiler. If you need the ultimate performance and traction, then a wing is for you.
Adding a Spoiler will:
- Help with fuel economy
- Enhance overall appearance
- Diffuse airflow over the car for smoother ride
